Backup Energy
The Background Story
Founded by Simon Stockton in response to the UK energy crisis, Backup Energy was built on nearly two decades of industry experience. With a career spanning 18 years in the energy sector, Simon set out to focus on the future - developing sites for renewable energy infrastructure, including solar farms, wind power, battery storage, and EV charging services. His goal was clear: support the UK’s energy resilience through innovation and sustainability.

BWF Partnerships
How we helped
BWF worked alongside Simon from the outset, sourcing viable land for energy development and facilitating key partnerships. We played an active role in structuring deals and securing capital partners—helping move projects from concept to execution with commercial and operational backing.
Backup Energy is now advancing through the Step 2 application stage of the government’s new NESO (National Energy System Operator) process. With a strong pipeline and the right partnerships in place, the business is positioned for continued growth in the renewable energy sector.
Partnership
Simon Stockton
"After nearly 20 years in the energy sector, I knew the industry needed bold, forward-thinking solutions - and I was ready to build them. But launching Backup Energy required more than just experience. I needed a partner who could help turn vision into action.

That’s exactly what I found in BWF Partnerships. They didn’t just talk - they delivered. From sourcing land to structuring deals and bringing in the right capital partners, they’ve been instrumental at every stage. Their knowledge of how to get things moving in a complex sector like energy has been invaluable.

Now, as we enter Step 2 of the NESO process, I’m confident in where we’re headed - and BWF continues to be a key part of that journey."
